What is Low Vision?
Low Vision, or partial sight, is a visual condition that can not be corrected by
conventional eyeglasses or contact lenses. A variety of disorders that affect the eye,
most age-related, may cause low vision. Some of these conditions include: Macular
Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma and Retinitis Pigmentosa. Low Vision is
the third most commonly occuring physical impairment in those over 65, exceeded only
by heart disease and arthritis.

What are Low Vision Services?
Low Vision Services are designed for individuals with low vision to help them overcome
the handicapping effects of their visual impairment. Based on individual lifestyle needs,
solutions will be sought to help each patient achieve their visual goals. This may include
the recommendation of optical and non-optical devices known as "Low Vision Aids".

What are Low Vision Aids?
Low Vision Aids are special lens systems designed to magnify or illuminate images to
improve visual acuity. Low Vision Aids may take the form of magnifiers, telescopes,
high-powered spectacles or electronic devices. Non-optical devices include large-print
reading materials, writing and signature guides and much more. Remember, any device
that you find helpful is worth using.

What can I expect from Low Vision Services?
Please be aware that magnifying vision aids will not restore your lost sight. The Low Vision
Service is a process whereby our staff will assist you in maximizing your remaining functional
vision.

How much will it cost?
The most common price range can be anywhere from $20-$200. These devices are not covered by
Medicare or most other private insurance plans.

How do I get started?
Please bring any eyeglasses, magnifiers or other devices that you are currently using due
to your vision impairment. These will greatly assist us in determining which vision aids
